Emily Christopher

Research Scientist

Emily Christopher is a Research Scientist who joined the IOM part-time in 2021 during her studies at Heriot-Watt University. Graduating top of her class with a First Class BSc in Biological Sciences (Human Health), Emily then attained a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Edinburgh. In 2023, she began working full-time for the IOM. 

Emily is an experienced qualitative researcher who works within the Behavioural Insights team. She contributed to the PROTECT COVID-19 National Core Study, representing views of energy sector workers. Additionally, Emily has a background in toxicology and hazardous exposures. She has assisted with the development of EU guidance documents, including protecting workers from hazardous medicinal products. Emily also works with pharmaceutical companies to establish safe exposure limits that protect workers handling Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. Within the AURORA project, she co-developed a risk assessment framework identifying research gaps required to assess micro- and nano-plastic exposure risks during pregnancy and early-life development.
