OH2023 – The John Cherrie Lecture: Dermal exposure science: it’s not skin-deep
IOM was proud to sponsor the ‘John Cherrie Lecture’ at BOHS OH2023 conference, which in this inaugural year was given by John Cherrie himself.
The former IOM Research Director delivered an invigorating talk about dermal exposure science. He drew attention to the lack of advancement in skin exposure measurement methods over the last 40 years. He also noted that dermal exposure is closely related to inadvertent ingestion of chemicals at work and ocular exposure, and the scientific understanding of these linked routes of exposure is even more limited. With a review of the current state of occupational exposure science and recommendations to improve the scientific base in this area the lecture offers a perspective on how both industry and science can be changed to improve human health.
