A World Health Organisation standard for asbestos

The extensive improvements which IOM developed for counting and measuring of asbestos, were incorporated into a World Health Organisation (WHO) standardised method for the measurement of asbestos fibres in the air. This standard prepared by IOM is now the basis for asbestos measurement world-wide.

This measurement method helped ensure safe environments and working practises for millions of workers worldwide. IOM has backed calls from both the WHO and the International Labour Organisation looking for a ban on the use of all forms of asbestos eliminating any future cases of asbestos-related diseases.
