An initial examination of management stress in the coal mining industry and possible avenues for its reduction at source. Final report on CEC Contract 7247/31/015

The work described in this report was conducted as part of a project which aimed:(i) to identify the principal sources of management stress in the mining industry, and(ii) to examine the potential for new technology management aids and organisational design in ameliorating stress.This was to have been done by an extensive survey by questionnaire followed by a series of interviews “”with managers designed to ensure accurate interpretation of the results of the survey.This report describes:(a) the background to the work and the project aims(b) the construction of the pilot questionnaire(c) the method required for analysis of the results obtained in using the pilot questionnaire(d) the method for using the pilot results to construct the main questionnaire, and(e) the method for analysis of the results obtained in using the mainquestionnaire. “”
