Environmental conditions at South Kirkby Colliery 1982/83
This report presents the data on respirable and total dust concentrations obtained at South Kirkby Colliery, Barnsley Area, from April 1982 to March 1983 inclusive.A series of face summary charts and tables give relevant information regarding seams and faces worked, coal output, method of working, machine details, supports, dust suppression and the associated respirable dust concentrations at particular coal face sites.Respirable dust concentrations at outbye and surface sites are tabulated separately. The compositional data will be reported in an addendum to this report. The relationship between the respirable concentration at the statutory control position and coal face mean concentrations is considered and the variability of the observations within the occupational groups examined. The nitrous fume sampling results are reported and the observed values assessed. For the year 1982/83 the mean coal face respirable dust concentration at South Kirkby Colliery was 6.5 mg/m3 with the corresponding total dust concentration about four times higher.
