Pneumoconiosis Field Research: Environmental conditions at Lady Victoria Colliery, 1975/76

This report tabulates respirable dust concentrations at Lady Victoria Colliery for the period April 1975 – March 1976.Information regarding seams worked, outputs, methods of working, explosives used, dust suppression, manpower and mean travellingtimes to faces, together with associated dust concentrations is presented. At Lady Victoria Colliery the coalface respirable dust concentration was 3.0 mg/m3 excluding preparation shifts. Including preparation and development, overall mean coalface respirable dust concentration was 2.5 mg/m3. The mean ash content of respirable dust was 45. 3 per cent and the mean quartz content was 11.8 per cent (26 per cent of the ash) representing a quartz concentration of 0.30 mg/m3.Face total dust concentrations are tabulated, and were ten times as high as the respirable concentrations.
