Pneumoconiosis Field Research: Environmental conditions at Linby Colliery, 1974/75

This report tabulates respirable dust concentrations and compositions at Linby Colliery for the period April, 1974 to March 1975. Information regarding seams worked, outputs, methods of working, dust suppression and manpower together with associated dust concentrations is presented in a series of face charts.At Linby Colliery the coalface mean respirable dust concentration was 5.3mg/m3. The mean ash content of the respirable dust sampled was 60.7 per cent and the mean quartz content was 7.9 per cent (mean concentration 0.42mg/m3).Total dust concentrations are also given, and on the average, were five times as high as respirable dust concentrations.
