Pneumoconiosis Field Research: Environmental conditions at Linby Colliery, 1973/74

This report tabulates respirable dust concentrations and compositionsat Linby Colliery for the period April 1973 to March 1974. Information regarding seams worked, outputs, methods of working, dust suppression and manpower, together with the associated dust concentrations is presented in a series of face charts.At Linby Colliery the mean coalface respirable dust concentration was 4.9 mg/m3. The mean ash content of the respirable dust sampled was 65. 2 per cent and the mean quartz content was 8. 6 per cent (concentration 0.42mg/m3).Total dust concentrations are also given, and on average, were six times as high as respirable dust concentrations.
