Pneumoconiosis Field Research: Environmental conditions at Oakdale Colliery, 1971

Respirable dust concentrations and compositions at Oakdale Colliery are tabulated for the period April 1971 to March 1972. Information regarding seams worked, outputs, methods of working, dust suppression and manpower together with the associated dust concentrations is presented in a series of face charts. At Oakdale Colliery the coal face mean respirable dust concentration was 3.4 mg/m3. The mean ash content of the respirable dust sampled was 23 .8 per cent, and the mean quartz content 2.6 per cent (representing a concentration of 0.09 mg/m3).Total dust concentrations are also given, and on average, were nine times as high as the respirable dust concentrations.
