PROTECT COVID-19 National Core study
The PROTECT COVID-19 National Core Study consists of six research themes, which involve different work tasks to address the research questions from different angles. IOM have been focused on themes two (transmission modelling) and three (sector specific studies), working on six work packages, this includes;
- Covid at Work Study (CAWS)-Exploring transmission within the food and drink processing industry
- Face coverings: What affects your behaviour in a retail consulting environment? Exploring the factors affecting use of face coverings amongst workers and members of the public within close contact retail.
- Transmission Modelling- Exploring the transmission risk, route of infection and effect of controls in workplace settings using quantitative microbial risk assessment models (QMRA).
- Cross Sector Comparisons- Cross sector comparison of key evidence from sector specific research.
- Analysis of National Data on Infection and Mortality- Analysing occupational differences in infection and mortality records using data held on the ONS Secure Research Service
- Energy Sector- Exploring transmission and mitigation measures within energy production

The PROTECT COVID-19 National Core Study on transmission and environment is a research programme improving our understanding of how SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) is transmitted from person to person, and how this varies in different environments. This improved understanding will enable more effective measures to be implemented in order to stop transmission and help us to learn to live with COVID-19.
