A leading database for the exposure of chemicals
Funded by the European Chemical Industry Association and in partnership with the university of Utrecht in the Netherlands, IOM pioneered the Chemical Exposure Management and Assessment System (CEMAS); a method for the systematic recording of chemical exposure data on an electronic database. The purpose of the database was intended to provide a platform for the European industry to collate data and ensure the safe use of chemicals within the workplace.
The CEMAS has provided stimulus for other data management initiatives both within the IOM and other organisations, with software combining a way of storing measurement data and simple exposure modelling tools to provide further information for the user. These include the highly successful Advanced REACH Tool.
