Defining the health risks of nanoparticles

IOM led the first structured international research project into the health risks of nanoparticles. The research attempted to evaluate the relative toxicity of a range of nanoparticles using models and testing to address exposure, hazard and health risks. This research model was used and elaborated in numerous subsequent projects, funded through European Framework projects which led to a major programme of research.

Through this programme, IOM became one of the leading research institutes in Europe addressing nanoparticle health risks.
